The saying, "it takes a village to raise a child" can also be applied to farming Kava. Over the course of 4 years many hands from our family will have cared for each Kava plant on our farm. A lot of extra care is required when a Kava plant is in it's infancy. A big threat to a young Kava plants life are weeds. Kava plants are at a constant battle with neighboring weeds for root space in it's first one to two years of growth.
